Sedation options are sometimes the only way patients can feel relaxed enough to proceed with dental care. Laughing gas is a very common, mild sedative our team uses at Atlantic Dentistry. Laughing gas is inhaled through a mask over the nose during a dental treatment. This mixture will help you relax and not feel uneasy. Laughing gas will not put you to sleep. It will just help you feel more relaxed and content. You will be able to follow the directions your dentist gives since you will be awake and able to respond.
Some patients say the mild sedative gives them a feeling of being light headed. A few other symptoms of laughing gas are the legs and arms feeling heavy or some patients may have a tingling sensation. Overall, most patients just feel happy and calm. There are no harmful effects, and this sedative will wear off shortly after the mask is removed. Just a few deep breaths will get the laughing gas out of your system quickly once treatment is complete.
Atlantic Dentistry wants you to make your oral health a priority, and we will do anything we can to help. If this means you will need a mild sedative to receive your dental treatment, we will have that option available to you. We would be happy to discuss your options and answer any questions that you may have. Contact us today to schedule an appointment during our convenient hours.
